REGA

The Planar 6 RS Edition (Rega Special) adopts many key engineering features from the next tier Planar 8 model whilst retaining the classic Rega form factor and dustcover. The ultra lightweight high rigidity plinth makes the perfect platform to mount the precision RB880 tonearm which is factory fitted and expertly aligned with the multi-award winning Nd9 moving magnet cartridge.

  • Classic styling, serious performer
The Rega Planar 6 RS Edition is constructed using our unique Tancast 8 foam core plinth finished with an aluminium metal skin HP laminate with matching edging. This assembly creates a highly ridged ultra-light platform, ideal for mounting advanced components whilst reducing resonance. Like the standard Planar 6, the RS Edition includes a custom matched Neo MK2 PSU, and a hand tuned low noise 24v motor which drives the aluminium sub platter. In addition, this is now driven via an upgraded CNC twin drive pulley and two Rega Reference EBLT drive belts for improved accuracy and speed control. To complete the package the precision RB880 tonearm (usually found on the Planar 8) is supplied mounted with the highly acclaimed Nd9 moving magnet cartridge to complete the ultimate Planar 6 package.

  • Ultra lightweight plinth
Rega has pioneered the use of lightweight, rigid plinths over many years. Our unique, ultra-lightweight Tancast 8 foam core with a highly rigid phenolic resin skin (HPL) is the foundations of the standard Planar 6 and upper tier skeletal range. The Planar 6 RS Edition uses the same premium HPL combined with the stunning RS brushed metal aluminium skin with matching edging.
  • RB880 Precision Tonearm
Designed using the latest 3D CAD technology, the RB880 is the result of almost 40 years of tonearm design experience. This tonearm features an aluminium vertical bearing housing, a redesigned sleeve and vertical bearing shaft (both manufactured from stainless steel) to improve mounting stability and overall rigidity. The advanced tonearm tube is designed using intelligent redistribution of mass, ensuring this arm will exhibit fewer points of possible resonance.
  • The extreme levels of stability achieved, coupled with almost friction free movement from the high precision hand matched bearing assemblies, guarantee to gather more information from your vinyl than ever before. You will also find a Rega made, low capacitance phono cables terminated with high specification phono plugs.
  • 24V AC synchronous motor
24V low noise synchronous precision motor and PCB assembly, fitted with a custom CNC twin drive machined aluminium pulley. Each motor is hand tuned to the Neo Mk2 PSU to minimise vibration and perfectly set speed.
  • Nd9 Reference Moving Magnet
Each Nd9 is meticulously hand-made by our highly skilled technicians. The Nd9 uses our most advanced “fine line” nude diamond profile, bonded to a Boron rod cantilever for maximum detail retrieval. This profile has an exceptionally small radii Monocrystalline manmade diamond with the minor radius being just 3µm (microns) as viewed from the top and 30µm in the vertical when viewed from the front. This profile allows immediate adjustment to very small changes in the vinyl due to the small contact area of the diamond which results in exceptional levels of detail being retrieved. The design uses brand new generator geometry with perfect symmetry to achieve highly accurate channel balance.
  • Double Brace Technology
The Planar 6 RS Editions plinth is strengthened further using our double brace system. Mounted specifically where the increased rigidity is required (between the tonearm mounting and the main hub bearing) this forms a structurally sound “stressed beam” assembly. This rigid plinth design prevents energy absorption and unwanted resonance, which will add unnatural distortions to the music. Equally, heavier mass can transfer more unwanted energy, such as motor or bearing noise directly into the rotating record. The use of braces instead of the complete skin allows double thickness phenolic resin in these key areas which directly addresses the issue of mass absorption and unwanted energy transmission.
  • Neo MK2 turntable power supply
The Neo MK2 PSU is an advanced turntable power supply providing user controllable fine speed adjustment, an advanced anti-vibration motor circuit, and the convenience of electronic speed change. The Neo MK2 vastly reduces motor noise and improves speed stability and rotational speed accuracy.

About In-Store only, or click and collect products....

  • Different suppliers and manufacturers have individual and differing policies regarding shipping on some or all of their products, some will require that you physically come in to the store, to get the benefit of advice and demonstration and, in addition, some items require professional installation and/or setup as part of our dealer agreement. This also ensures that you get the very best performance from your investment.

Although not all our items are available as direct 'add to basket' we can often arrange to deliver the items and install the equipment ourselves.

There is usually a charge for these services so please contact us first and we can discuss any queries and options with you.

If in any doubt give us a call or pop in and we can discuss the best and most convenient way to make your purchase, we are here to help!

  • We do indeed stock many of the items featured on our website, but due to the large range of equipment we offer and the variety of finishes and options on some products it would be impractical to stock all products in all finishes. Some products will be special order, and stock levels rise and fall on popular items, so if you are coming in to see a particular item please contact us first to check we have it available. A few brands are mail order only and we do not generally have them on display in the showroom. The showroom is well stocked and the items on display for demonstration change regularly.
