With the TD 124 DD, Thorens revives one of its most legendary models. The successful basic concept of the original TD 124 has been consistently further developed with modern approaches and now enables a completely new level of sound reproduction quality.

  • The TD 124 was first introduced in 1957 and served for decades in countless radio studios around the world. But ambitious music lovers also quickly discovered the enormously precise turntable for home use, and a dedicated fan base remains loyal to this legendary turntable to this day.
  • Thorens continues this tradition with the completely redesigned TD 124 DD, incorporating innovative technologies. The purist design and basic construction are based on the original, but the height-adjustable aluminum chassis now rests on vibration-damping rubber elements. Instead of the original idler-wheel and belt drive, the new TD 124 DD uses a high-precision direct drive. This provides powerful torque, enables precise speed control, and isolates the platter from unwanted drive vibrations.

  • The also newly designed TP 124 tonearm can be precisely adjusted in all parameters to the cartridge being used and features an innovative anti-skating solution with a ruby ​​bearing. Furthermore, the developers have equipped the TD 124 DD with a patented new electric tonearm lift, which ensures gentle insertion and removal of the stylus.
  • In addition to the extensive adjustment options, the included headshell also provides a great deal of flexibility in cartridge selection. The package also includes an additional, slightly heavier counterweight that fits the separately available Thorens SPU TD 124 cartridge. This is a version of the equally legendary Ortofon SPU, specially tuned to the TD 124 DD, which Thorens developed in collaboration with Ortofon for discerning listeners.
  • Thorens has consistently developed the new TD 124 DD to meet the highest sonic demands. A high-quality external power supply ensures interference-free operation, and for connection to high-end systems, in addition to unbalanced outputs, balanced XLR connectors are also available. These, when used with a suitably equipped phono preamplifier, guarantee optimal signal transmission and thus the best possible sound.

  • We do indeed stock many of the items featured on our website, but due to the large range of equipment we offer and the variety of finishes and options on some products it would be impractical to stock all products in all finishes. Some products will be special order, and stock levels rise and fall on popular items, so if you are coming in to see a particular item please contact us first to check we have it available. A few brands are mail order only and we do not generally have them on display in the showroom. The showroom is well stocked and the items on display for demonstration change regularly.
  • Yes, we are located on a mixed residential and commercial street and there is reasonably priced pay and display parking both outside and in the surrounding streets. It is free after 5.30pm if you want to check our the local restaurants in the evening to celebrate your purchases!
  • If you know exactly what you want - that's great, we can provide. However - many of our customers find that a product demonstration and comparison has helped them make the correct decision for them.
